Operations Engineer / Senior Engineer, optical manufacturing, UK

Our client is a global leader in Augmented Reality (AR) near-to-eye technology, delivering into the consumer and enterprise space. We operate as a “fabless optics” business model with the target of high volume manufacturing in the near future. This means we need to strongly build up our Operations team to co-develop processes and flows with our key partners over the next 18 months and beyond.

The role:

•    Reporting to the Director of Manufacturing Operations
•    Possible 10% – 30% travel will be needed mainly in the EU, depending on product delivery phase.
•    Key contributor to a small, dynamic Fabless Operations team responsible for linking our R&D organisation to the delivery via our Master Stamp, NIL, coating and optical finishing suppliers
•    Definition of process flows, equipment selection and suitability vs. our product requirements, through to new production introduction and debug
•    Later in the ramp cycle, working with remote suppliers and linking into the clients technical team to resolve manufacturing sustaining issues

What we need to see:

•    The ideal candidate should be of degree calibre or equivalent experience in lieu
•    Experience / background in product or process engineering
•    A background in electronic or optical components and systems technology, ideally to include slab waveguides and nano-imprint technology, plus lens cutting through to finishing and optical test in medium to high volume

Experience in as many as possible of the following:

•    New product introduction (NPI)
•    Sustaining production – problem solving and troubleshooting
•    Yield enhancement and cost reduction
•    Process capability and statistical analysis of performance
•    Project and supplier management
•    Working with third party OEM suppliers
•    Test methodology implementation
•    Development and analysis of qualification and life-test process
•    QA and returns processing, analysis and reporting
•    Some experience in database management and data analysis including scripting in e.g. Perl / Python
•    Strong verbal / written communication and reasoning skills
•    Flexible and team oriented, “can do” attitude appropriate for a dynamic start-up environment
