Agreeable recruiter seeks affable account managers
Last time we checked, ‘affable’ and ‘agreeable’ weren’t opposites of ‘competitive’ and ‘commercial’.
At MRL, we’ve been doing business very successfully for nearly 20 years, largely based on being decent, dependable and having the empathy and life experience to see things the way our clients and candidates do. (Yes, we are recruiters.)
We employ around 45 people. We have offices in France and Germany and everyone over there are pretty agréable and freundlich too. We’re not too big and not too small. There’s room to grow here and people to learn from but without all the corporate tangleweed or too many tedious KPIs.
What we’re looking for
We need people to join us as Account Managers.
We give you clients. You get to know them and how they like to work. You match the right candidates to their jobs. You place a few. Everyone’s happy.
This is engaging work. You get to meet lots of different people. It can be a route into a more strategic role – or perhaps an escape from it.
One word of warning: don’t apply for this job because you’re “tired of sales”. This is a sales job. Not a shiny suited, 100-calls-a-day-in-a-windowless-basement one. (We have windows. We’re in Hove, by the station; it’s nice.)
You’ll be selling jobs. Convincing candidates they’re right for your clients’ roles. Done properly (and we wouldn’t do it any other way) it takes patience, credibility, intuitive people skills and all-round commercial intelligence.
Above all, we want people who see this job as a step up, not a sideways move. You might come from a resourcing role because you want to be more client-facing. You might be a trainee/Account Exec who wants to place bigger roles (£50k and upwards) – and to earn more commission.
The bit about us
Being nice doesn’t just extend to our clients and candidates. We’re good to our people too. We know everyone says that but we actually are. On Glassdoor, the worst thing anyone could find to say about the boss, Dave, is that he should give up smoking. He’s working on it.
Basically, we treat our people like grown-ups. We talk to them about where they’re heading in their career and make sure they get the training they need to get there – although not incessantly – mostly we just let them get on with doing what they do best. We reward them well and recognise a job well done. And we look after them too – there’s a healthcare package for employees and their families from day one.
We appreciate that now might not be the ideal time to move – we want people with a career plan. But whatever your current position, if you like the sound of MRL, then we should definitely talk – in complete confidence, obviously.
