Expert – Energy Storage System Solution & Architecture
We are recruiting on behalf of a leading global technology organisation for an Expert – Energy Storage System Solution & Architecture. This senior technical role will focus on developing next-generation battery energy storage system (BESS) architectures for utility-scale, commercial and industrial, renewable and high-power applications.
You will help shape future energy storage products and technology roadmaps, working across batteries, power conversion, DC/DC systems, protection, thermal management and plant-level control.
Key Responsibilities
-
Develop advanced BESS architectures for utility-scale, C&I, renewable co-location and high-power applications.
-
Translate grid, market and customer requirements into system architectures and technical specifications.
-
Design and optimise AC/DC-coupled architectures, including battery configuration, DC/DC topology and PCS sizing.
-
Develop system-level control concepts supporting grid-forming, voltage/frequency support and power quality requirements.
-
Model and evaluate architectures using tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, PSCAD, PLECS or PowerFactory.
-
Drive system integration, prototype development, CHIL/PHIL testing and engineering validation.
-
Monitor emerging energy storage technologies, European grid codes and industry standards.
-
Contribute to technology roadmaps and collaborate with international research, product and industry partners.
Key Requirements
-
Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Power Systems, Energy Systems, Control Engineering or a related field.
-
10+ years’ industrial or applied R&D experience in BESS, grid-scale power conversion, power systems or similar technologies.
-
Deep knowledge of BESS electrical architecture, power conversion and grid integration.
-
Strong understanding of batteries/BMS, DC/DC converters, PCS/inverters, transformers, switchgear, protection, thermal management and plant-level control.
-
Proven experience defining complex system architectures, requirements and subsystem interfaces.
-
Strong knowledge of power electronics, grid codes, grid-forming technologies and multi-converter control.
-
Experience with system modelling and simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, PSCAD, PLECS or PowerFactory.
-
Experience in prototype development, system integration, CHIL/PHIL testing or product development is highly desirable.
-
Proven technical leadership and ability to drive complex R&D projects from concept through to product implementation.
-
Excellent communication skills and experience working within international, multidisciplinary teams.
-
Fluent English.
What’s on Offer
-
Opportunity to shape next-generation energy storage technologies and products.
-
Exposure to large-scale, high-power and emerging energy applications.
-
International, collaborative working environment with strong research and technology partnerships.
-
Extensive professional development and training opportunities.
-
High level of technical responsibility within a growing global organisation.
