Senior Furnace Engineer

The role
A high-technology manufacturing organisation is looking for an experienced engineer to take ownership of thermal process performance within a wafer fabrication environment. This position combines day-to-day production support with longer-term development work, covering process control, tool behaviour, structured experimentation, and operational improvement. You will work closely with manufacturing, integration, yield, and equipment teams to maintain a stable line while improving consistency, output, and cost performance.

What you’ll do
  • Take technical responsibility for assigned thermal processing steps across the production flow.
  • Monitor process health, identify drift quickly, and implement corrective actions that protect quality and maintain control.
  • Plan and execute structured experiments, interpret results, and translate findings into sustainable factory improvements.
  • Investigate process excursions and equipment-related issues, driving root-cause resolution with minimal disruption to manufacturing.
  • Use statistical methods and production data to identify trends, quantify variation, and support sound engineering decisions.
  • Provide day-to-day module support, including guidance on affected material and rapid response to priority issues.
  • Work closely with equipment and maintenance teams to improve repeatability, reduce downtime, and strengthen long-term reliability.
  • Lead improvement projects aimed at lowering waste, improving capability, and increasing overall factory efficiency.
  • Document changes clearly, embed successful solutions into standard practice, and communicate outcomes to key stakeholders.
What you’ll bring
  • Degree in engineering, materials, physics, or a similar technical discipline; postgraduate study would be an advantage.
  • Strong experience in wafer fabrication or another tightly controlled manufacturing environment, typically seven years or more.
  • Practical understanding of thermal processing operations and the production equipment used to support them.
  • Ability to analyse complex manufacturing data and use statistical techniques to guide actions and priorities.
  • Good working knowledge of spreadsheet-based analysis and presentation tools used in engineering environments.
  • Experience collaborating with multiple technical teams to solve manufacturing challenges.
  • Familiarity with structured risk assessment approaches would be beneficial.
  • Clear communication style, with the ability to explain technical issues in a practical and accessible way.
  • Proactive mindset, strong ownership, and confidence working in a fast-paced production setting.
  • Professional fluency in English.
Why join
This opportunity offers the chance to make a visible impact in a technically demanding manufacturing environment, helping improve process reliability, operational performance, and product outcomes.
