Senior Android / Mobile Apps Engineer: Singapore (Hybrid)

A global technology and supply chain organization is building a new internal engineering function to strengthen software delivery, improve production ownership, and create long-term engineering capability across the business.

We are looking for a Senior Android / Mobile Apps Engineer to design, build, maintain, and improve mobile applications supporting warehouse and operational workflows. This role focuses on Android-based applications, ruggedized warehouse devices, barcode and camera-driven processes, backend API integration, reliable field performance, and practical support for UAT and production rollout.

This is a senior hands-on engineering role working closely with Product Managers, Architects, backend engineers, QA teams, DevOps, and warehouse users. While the position does not include formal people management responsibilities, it is expected to provide technical leadership, mentor engineers where required, and help define mobile engineering standards.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working on business-critical mobile workflows where usability, speed, reliability, offline capability, device compatibility, and release quality directly impact warehouse and operations teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, maintain, and enhance Android applications used in warehouse and operational environments.
  • Build reliable mobile workflows for receiving, picking, packing, inventory management, barcode scanning, image capture, validation, and other operational use cases.
  • Integrate mobile applications with backend APIs, ERP systems, and other business-critical platforms.
  • Optimize performance, stability, usability, and responsiveness in real warehouse and field conditions.
  • Design offline-capable solutions, including local storage, synchronization, retry mechanisms, conflict handling, and user-friendly error recovery.
  • Support ruggedized Android devices, barcode scanners, camera workflows, device permissions, application configuration, and deployment processes.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers to define requirements, user workflows, acceptance criteria, UAT feedback, and rollout priorities.
  • Work with architects and backend engineers to define APIs, data flows, authentication, and technical dependencies.
  • Partner with QA teams to establish testing strategies, regression coverage, and release readiness.
  • Support production troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution of device, API, synchronization, and performance-related issues.
  • Produce clean, maintainable, and testable code while contributing to design reviews and technical documentation.
  • Improve mobile engineering standards, monitoring, diagnostics, logging, and supportability.
  • Contribute ideas for future capabilities including computer vision, image capture improvements, and AI-assisted warehouse processes.

Required Experience

  • Professional mobile application development experience with strong Android expertise.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Kotlin and/or Java, Android SDK, Android Studio, Gradle, and modern Android development practices.
  • Experience building production mobile applications integrated with REST APIs, authentication services, and backend systems.
  • Strong understanding of mobile UX principles for operational users, prioritizing speed, simplicity, and reliability.
  • Experience designing offline-first applications with local storage and synchronization mechanisms.
  • Knowledge of mobile security, authentication, permissions, secure storage, and data protection.
  • Experience troubleshooting applications across different devices, OS versions, networks, and backend dependencies.
  • Familiarity with automated testing, regression testing, and release management practices.
  • Ability to work effectively with Product, QA, DevOps, Engineering, and business stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills and a practical, ownership-driven approach to problem solving.

Preferred Experience

  • Warehouse, logistics, inventory, supply chain, or distribution centre applications.
  • Ruggedized Android devices and Zebra, Honeywell, or similar scanning hardware.
  • Barcode scanning SDKs, RFID, and camera-based workflows.
  • Android Enterprise, MDM/EMM platforms, managed devices, and private app distribution.
  • Jetpack components, MVVM architecture, Room/SQLite, WorkManager, Retrofit, and OkHttp.
  • Kotlin Coroutines, background processing, push notifications, and crash reporting tools.
  • Exposure to React Native or Flutter alongside strong native Android expertise.
  • Integration with .NET services, SQL Server, ERP systems, or warehouse management platforms.
  • Experience with computer vision, image processing, or AI-enabled mobile applications.
  • Azure DevOps, Git, CI/CD pipelines, and mobile release automation.
  • Experience in technology, distribution, logistics, manufacturing, or industrial environments.

Success in the First 90 Days

  • Gain a strong understanding of the mobile application landscape, warehouse workflows, devices, backend integrations, and user pain points.
  • Build relationships with Product, Engineering, QA, DevOps, and operational teams.
  • Review architecture, code quality, testing approaches, deployment models, and support processes.
  • Identify risks around stability, device compatibility, connectivity, performance, and security.
  • Deliver meaningful improvements to critical workflows or production issues.
  • Define recommendations for testing, logging, diagnostics, code quality, and release processes.
  • Support UAT and rollout activities for warehouse and operational users.
  • Develop an initial roadmap for mobile engineering improvements aligned with business priorities.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
  • Collaborative and international working environment.
  • Opportunity to shape the future of mobile applications within a growing global engineering organization.
