Principal Power Electronics Engineer – Medium Voltage Systems

Location: Stockholm, Sweden

Shape the Future of High-Power Electrical Energy Conversion

We're supporting a global technology organisation in the appointment of a Principal Power Electronics Engineer to join its advanced engineering and innovation team in Sweden.

This is a rare opportunity for an experienced engineer or technical specialist to influence the development of next-generation medium-voltage power conversion technologies that will support the future of industrial electrification, renewable energy and critical infrastructure.

Rather than joining an established product development programme, you'll become part of a research-led engineering environment where innovation, technical leadership and long-term technology development are at the heart of everything you do.

The Opportunity

You'll take a leading role in exploring new approaches to medium-voltage power conversion, helping to define future technologies that will support large-scale energy systems and high-power electrical applications.

Working alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams and external research partners, you'll contribute to concept development, technology evaluation, laboratory validation and long-term technical strategy.

This role offers a unique opportunity to combine hands-on engineering with technical leadership, allowing you to influence future product direction while remaining actively involved in advanced engineering activities.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Provide subject matter expertise across medium-voltage power conversion technologies.

  • Guide the development of innovative electrical architectures for future high-power applications.

  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend new engineering approaches.

  • Support long-term technical planning through market awareness and engineering insight.

Research & Development

  • Lead feasibility studies and proof-of-concept activities for new power conversion technologies.

  • Design, evaluate and validate advanced electrical systems within laboratory environments.

  • Support the development of new engineering concepts from initial investigation through technical verification.

  • Contribute to technical publications, intellectual property generation and innovation initiatives where appropriate.

Engineering Collaboration

  • Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to solve complex technical challenges.

  • Collaborate with academic institutions, research organisations and external technical partners.

  • Share technical knowledge across engineering teams and provide mentoring to less experienced colleagues.

  • Participate in technical reviews, design discussions and strategic engineering initiatives.

Innovation

  • Monitor developments across the wider power electronics industry.

  • Identify opportunities to improve future technologies through innovative engineering solutions.

  • Support the creation of robust engineering methodologies and technical best practice.

  • Help shape future research activities by providing technical guidance and thought leadership.

About You

We're interested in speaking with experienced power electronics engineers who have a genuine passion for solving technically challenging engineering problems.

You'll likely bring:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics or a related engineering discipline.

  • Extensive experience working with medium-voltage electrical systems.

  • Hands-on experience designing, testing or commissioning complex power electronic equipment.

  • Strong understanding of electrical conversion technologies and associated control principles.

  • Experience working within product development, advanced engineering or applied research environments.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • The ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly across multidisciplinary teams.

Experience That Would Be Highly Beneficial

We're particularly interested in candidates with experience in areas such as:

  • Medium-voltage electrical systems

  • High-power power electronics

  • Grid-connected power conversion

  • Energy storage technologies

  • Renewable energy systems

  • Industrial power conversion

  • Converter architecture development

  • Electrical system design

  • Hardware development

  • Control systems engineering

  • High-voltage insulation and protection

  • Laboratory testing and validation

Experience gained within industrial manufacturing, renewable energy, electrical infrastructure, transportation electrification, research organisations or advanced technology companies would all be highly relevant.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This is an opportunity to join an internationally recognised engineering organisation investing heavily in the future of electrical energy technology.

You'll work alongside highly experienced technical specialists on long-term innovation programmes, contribute to the development of future technologies and help solve some of the most complex engineering challenges facing the global energy sector.

If you're looking for a role that combines technical leadership, hands-on engineering and genuine innovation, this represents an exceptional opportunity to influence the next generation of power electronics.
