Technical Process Safety Specialist
Location: Stockholm (with travel as needed)
We’re looking for a seasoned Technical Process Safety Specialist to play a key role in shaping the safe design and delivery of a major industrial project. This is an opportunity to influence safety at the blueprint stage and ensure that complex facilities are built and operated with risk reduction at their core.
Working within a central engineering function, you’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, external engineering partners, and equipment suppliers to embed robust safety principles across the project lifecycle.
What you’ll be doing
Design Safety Assurance
You’ll review and challenge engineering designs to ensure safety is fully integrated from the outset. This includes working closely with contractors and vendors to validate risk controls and identify potential hazards early.
Standards & Best Practice
You’ll help shape and apply process safety frameworks aligned with regulatory expectations and global industry standards, ensuring consistency across all project phases.
Regulatory Insight
You’ll interpret applicable legislation and guidance, working with authorities and independent specialists to ensure all requirements are clearly understood and implemented.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
You’ll act as a key safety voice across engineering, procurement, and construction teams, helping align stakeholders and resolve technical safety queries.
Compliance & Verification
You’ll support audits, design reviews, and inspections to ensure adherence to safety requirements, contributing to a project that meets both legal and operational expectations.
What we’re looking for
- Master’s degree in Engineering (Chemical Engineering preferred)
- 10+ years’ experience in large-scale industrial environments (e.g. energy, heavy industry, oil & gas, petrochemicals, metals, utilities)
- At least 5 years in a dedicated process safety role
- Strong experience with methodologies such as HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL, QRA, and broader risk assessment techniques
- Familiarity with areas like functional safety, fire and explosion risk, hazardous area classification, and industrial safety management
- Additional exposure to topics such as consequence modelling, noise assessment, or machine safety is beneficial
- Experience in hydrogen, LNG, or metals-related projects is a strong advantage
- Solid understanding of European and international safety regulations and standards
- Experience with permitting and regulatory approval processes for major industrial facilities
- Fluency in Swedish is required
What makes this role interesting
This is not a box-ticking safety role. You’ll be influencing decisions that shape how a major industrial asset is designed, built, and operated, with real-world impact on people, communities, and long-term sustainability.
