Vice President of Critical Infrastructure Engineering
Data Centers | Mission-Critical Infrastructure
Overview
We are supporting a leading data center platform in the appointment of a VP / Head of Critical Infrastructure Engineering to lead the technical strategy, standards, and execution of mission-critical infrastructure across a growing portfolio of data center campuses.
This role sits at the intersection of engineering strategy, capital deployment, and operational resilience, with responsibility for defining how power and cooling systems are designed, deployed, and scaled to support high-density, enterprise, and hyperscale environments.
The successful individual will be a senior technical authority, capable of influencing at executive level while remaining deeply credible across electrical and mechanical engineering disciplines.
Key Responsibilities
-
Own and define the global critical infrastructure engineering strategy, including power, cooling, and resilience standards across all facilities.
-
Set and maintain engineering design standards for new builds, expansions, and retrofits, ensuring consistency, scalability, and reliability.
-
Act as the senior technical escalation point for complex infrastructure challenges, uptime risks, and root cause investigations.
-
Lead and develop a team of senior engineers and directors across Electrical, Mechanical, and Critical Facilities Engineering.
-
Partner closely with Design, Construction, Operations, Procurement, and Real Estate teams to ensure seamless project delivery.
-
Guide decisions around high-density compute, AI workloads, liquid cooling, and power availability constraints.
-
Oversee engagement with utilities, OEMs, EPCs, and engineering consultants.
-
Support long-term capacity planning, CAPEX strategy, and technical due diligence for new sites and acquisitions.
-
Ensure compliance with applicable safety, regulatory, and industry standards while continuously improving reliability and efficiency.
-
Influence sustainability, energy efficiency, and future-proofing initiatives across the portfolio.
Required Experience & Background
-
Extensive experience in mission-critical infrastructure engineering, ideally within data centers, hyperscale environments, or equivalent critical facilities.
-
Proven leadership at Director / VP level, managing senior technical teams across multiple locations.
-
Deep technical expertise in:
-
Electrical power systems (utility interconnects, substations, UPS, generators)
-
Mechanical systems (chillers, cooling plants, air and liquid cooling architectures)
-
-
Strong understanding of resiliency, redundancy, and uptime risk management.
-
Experience supporting large-scale capital programs, including greenfield builds and campus expansions.
-
Ability to operate credibly with executive leadership while remaining hands-on when required.
-
Comfortable working in fast-growth, capital-intensive environments.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Engineering degree (Electrical, Mechanical, or similar discipline).
-
Experience supporting high-density or AI-driven workloads.
-
Background working with multiple geographies or large, distributed portfolios.
-
Exposure to sustainability initiatives, energy optimization, or alternative cooling technologies.
Why This Role
-
Executive-level impact with ownership of critical infrastructure strategy.
-
Opportunity to shape the future of data center design and resilience.
-
High visibility with senior leadership and influence over long-term technical direction.
-
Platform with strong growth trajectory and significant capital investment.
